When one of our premier luxury vehicles is in the final stages of development, the engineering and testing crews are allowed the pleasure of driving them around public places. The Carscoops crew was spending a day in Italy recently and saw the GranTurismo’s nearly finished model on a drive.

It has since been confirmed that the incoming generation of GranCabrio and GranTurismo will be available in both ICE and EV models. This was highlighted last year as part of our brand’s full renaissance, which will include 13 new model launches within the next three years. During the winter, an earlier version of the GranTurismo was seen with an Alfa Romeo Guilia body, but development plans have changed a bit since. The second-generation model bears quite a resemblance to its Pininfarina-designed predecessor that was produced for over a decade.

These spy shots offer a much clearer view of the car from various angles. Starting up front, there are LED headlights sitting on the front fenders, drawing inspiration from the striking MC20. The sculpted front bumper’s appearance is dominated by the large grille and air intakes situated on either side. The rear fenders form a sleekly designed tail with a heavily inclined rear windshield and sporty new taillights.

The engine is most likely the new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that was first introduced in the MC20. Maserati has officially confirmed that both GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be available with the fully electric powertrain, which will be the first EVS ever to brandish the iconic trident emblem.

Greatly improved performance figures, sharper handling, and a more premium cabin in the new model will all be winning traits to watch for down the road. These awesome shots from Car and Driver offer a few more looks at the prototype testing. You may notice the similarity to the MC20 as well as a chrome-tipped exhaust.

A convertible model is slated to make its debut a year after the coupe. This arrival will surely be a welcome companion for anyone who loves the grand touring experience!
